Qatar’s Interior Ministry has confirmed that six of the seven individuals reported missing after a helicopter crash in the country’s territorial waters have been found deceased. Search and rescue operations led to the recovery of the six bodies, while specialized teams continue intensive efforts to locate the remaining missing person, according to an official statement released Sunday. The ministry did not disclose the identities of those aboard the aircraft or provide additional details regarding the circumstances of the crash. Earlier on Sunday, Qatar’s Defense Ministry had stated that the helicopter suffered a “technical malfunction” during a routine mission before going down in regional waters. Authorities have not suggested that hostile action played any role in the incident. The accident comes against a backdrop of heightened regional tensions. Since US-Israeli joint attacks on Iran began on Feb. 28, Qatar has faced repeated Iranian drone and missile strikes. Ras Lattafa Industrial City, one of the world’s largest liquefied natural gas production hubs, has been struck multiple times during the ongoing hostilities. However, officials have indicated that Sunday’s helicopter crash appears unrelated to the broader military conflict. Search efforts remain ongoing as authorities work to locate the final missing individual. No further information has been released regarding the cause of the technical malfunction or whether any distress signals were issued prior to the crash.
