Erdoğan: Türkiye boosts renewables to 62% of installed capacity, eyes COP31 leadership

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced Friday that Türkiye has increased the share of renewables in its total installed electricity capacity to 62% through expanded wind and solar power. Speaking at the Introduction Program of the Cemre Fund, Erdoğan highlighted the country's progress in clean energy and afforestation. Global Environmental Leadership "By expanding wind and solar power, we increased the share of renewables in total installed capacity to 62%," Erdoğan said, noting Türkiye ranks among top countries globally in afforestation and is among Europe's leaders in increasing forest assets. "Today, the whole world stands on the threshold of serious tests regarding the environment and climate issues. Wherever we are in the world, it is neither possible nor right to ignore the climate and environmental crisis." COP31 Hosting Erdoğan emphasized environmental awareness as "a consciousness of homeland" and "building a future," stating: "We are making intense efforts to protect nature and leave a more livable, more beautiful, and cleaner Türkiye to future generations." He noted Türkiye will host COP31 this year, welcoming nearly 200 countries in Antalya. "We will say 'It is no longer time for words, but for action.'" Inclusive Approach "We are never pursuing political discrimination in environmental projects," Erdoğan affirmed, adding that every step contributing to protecting nature is supported. The announcement underscores Türkiye's commitment to sustainable development and global climate cooperation.
