Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan voiced Türkiye's strong hope Thursday that the United States and Iran will reach a genuine diplomatic resolution without resorting to military action, following his participation in the inaugural Board of Peace meeting chaired by President Donald Trump in Washington. "Our wish is that there will be no need for a military operation or war, and that the parties genuinely reach a negotiation here," Fidan told Anadolu and TRT in the US capital. Positive Diplomatic Signals Fidan reported that his recent engagements, including discussions with Omani mediators and direct contacts with American and Iranian officials, have yielded more constructive results than past interactions. "My impression from the current talks—speaking with the Omani mediator, with the United States, and with Iran—is that the parties are giving unprecedentedly positive signals, particularly in advancing certain concrete issues," he stated. The assessment comes amid heightened US military presence in the region and ongoing indirect negotiations between Washington and Tehran. Türkiye's Regional Role The foreign minister's remarks underscore Ankara's active interest in preventing regional conflagration and supporting diplomatic channels between the two nations. Türkiye maintains close ties with both Washington and Tehran, positioning itself as a potential facilitator for de-escalation. Fidan's observations from the Washington gathering, which brought together representatives from over 45 countries primarily focused on Gaza reconstruction, reflect Ankara's broader engagement in regional stability efforts beyond the Palestinian issue.
