Indonesia landslide death toll climbs to 38 as search continues for dozens missing

The number of confirmed fatalities from Saturday’s landslide in Indonesia’s West Java province has increased to 38, according to state media reports on Tuesday. Search and rescue teams recovered four more bodies from the disaster site in West Bandung regency, where dozens of homes were buried under mud and debris. Ongoing Search Amid Difficult Conditions Approximately 61 people remain missing as of Monday, with around 800 personnel from the National Disaster Management Agency continuing search operations. The difficult, unstable terrain and forecasts for moderate to very heavy rainfall in coming days are complicating rescue efforts. The disaster has displaced at least 685 residents, who have been relocated to safer areas. Soldiers Among the Victims Indonesian Navy Chief of Staff Muhammad Ali confirmed that 23 soldiers were buried during a training exercise in the area when the landslide struck. Four soldiers have been confirmed dead, while 19 remain missing. So far, authorities have identified 20 bodies and handed them over to their families.
