2026-03-11 - 20:32

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian outlined Tehran's conditions for terminating the ongoing hostilities with the United States and Israel on Wednesday, insisting that any resolution must acknowledge his country's fundamental rights and provide ironclad assurances against further attacks. In a statement posted on social media platform X, Pezeshkian detailed the prerequisites for ending what he described as a war ignited by the "Zionist regime & US." "The only way to end this war—ignited by the Zionist regime & US—is recognizing Iran's legitimate rights, payment of reparations, and firm int'l guarantees against future aggression," Pezeshkian wrote. He noted that he had communicated this position during telephone conversations with the leaders of Russia and Pakistan, part of Tehran's diplomatic outreach to regional partners amid escalating hostilities. Diplomatic outreach amid ongoing conflict Pezeshkian's statements came as he engaged with Russian and Pakistani leadership, reaffirming Iran's stated commitment to regional stability while insisting on accountability for what Tehran characterizes as unprovoked aggression. The diplomatic contacts reflect Iran's efforts to build international support for its position as the conflict with US-Israeli forces enters its second week with no signs of de-escalation. Mounting casualties and regional spillover The conflict, which began Feb. 28 when the US and Israel launched joint military operations against Iran, has resulted in more than 1,200 fatalities including Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, according to Iranian authorities, with over 10,000 injured. Tehran has responded with retaliatory drone and missile strikes targeting Israel as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting American military assets, disrupting global energy markets and raising fears of broader regional conflagration. Türkiye continues to monitor these developments closely, as the expanding war threatens stability along its eastern and southern borders while creating complex diplomatic challenges for Ankara's balanced regional relationships.
