Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reported on Tuesday that its integrated air defense network had intercepted and destroyed an armed unmanned aerial vehicle over Tehran. According to a statement carried by the state news agency IRNA, the Hermes‐type drone was brought down using a “new defense system” developed domestically, though authorities did not disclose whether the incident resulted in any casualties or damage on the ground. Escalating hostilities across the region The downing occurred against the backdrop of a broader war that erupted on February 28, when a joint US‐Israeli military campaign targeted Iran. That offensive has so far killed more than 1,340 people, among them the then‐supreme leader, Ali Khamenei. In response, Tehran has launched retaliatory drone and missile strikes against Israel as well as locations in Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states that host American military assets, causing infrastructural damage and disrupting global aviation and energy markets. Ankara’s close watch on the crisis Türkiye has been closely monitoring the spiraling tensions while maintaining direct diplomatic channels with all sides. Ankara has repeatedly called for restraint and warned that a full‐scale regional war would serve no nation’s interests. Turkish diplomatic efforts continue to focus on preventing further escalation and ensuring the safety of civilians caught in the crossfire. As the conflict enters its second month, the downing of a drone over Tehran underscores the heightened state of alert across the region, with both defensive and offensive operations increasingly reaching urban centers.
