Iran's UN envoy: 1,348 civilians killed, 17,000 injured in US-Israeli strikes

Iran's ambassador to the UN announced Wednesday that more than 1,348 civilians have been killed and over 17,000 injured since the start of US-Israeli attacks against his country on Feb. 28, according to media reports. Amir Saeid Iravani made the remarks during a meeting at the UN, providing updated casualty figures as the conflict enters its 13th day. Infrastructure damage Iravani said the ongoing military strikes have resulted in a large number of civilian casualties in addition to extensive damage to infrastructure in several areas across the country. The attacks have targeted residential areas, energy facilities and industrial sites, with power outages reported in Tehran and other major cities following recent bombardments. Legal condemnation He added that the attacks constitute, in his view, a violation of international law and the UN Charter, calling on the international community to take action to stop the military operations. The ambassador's appeal comes as diplomatic efforts to halt the conflict have so far failed to produce results. Conflict context The US-Israeli campaign against Iran, dubbed "Operation Epic Fury," has killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and caused widespread destruction since its launch on Feb. 28.
