Falling debris from an intercepted Iranian missile caused significant damage across central Israel early Monday, with fragments striking at least eight locations, Israeli media reported. Emergency and rescue teams were dispatched to affected sites following the overnight attack. Petah Tikva hit hard Israel's Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported considerable damage in Petah Tikva, a city east of Tel Aviv, after missile fragments struck the area. The missile was described as a cluster-type weapon. In a separate incident, a fire broke out near Nir Am, close to the Gaza envelope, when debris landed in the area. No immediate reports of casualties were released. Escalating conflict continues The attack is the latest in Iran's ongoing retaliation against the joint US-Israeli offensive launched Feb. 28, which has killed more than 1,300 people in Iran, including former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Tehran has responded with sustained drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties and infrastructure damage while disrupting global markets and aviation. Heightened tensions persist The widespread debris damage highlights the persistent threat Israeli civilians face even when missile interceptions succeed. As the conflict enters its fourth week, both sides continue military operations with no diplomatic resolution in sight, raising concerns of further escalation and broader regional instability.
