Israeli injuries from Iranian attacks reach 5,165, ministry reports

Israel's Health Ministry said Wednesday that at least 5,165 people have been injured in Iranian attacks since late last month. In a statement, the ministry said that 120 people were injured in attacks from Iran in the past 24 hours. It did not specify how many people are still hospitalized. Mounting toll The latest figures underscore the ongoing human cost of Iran's retaliatory campaign, which has included thousands of drone and missile strikes targeting Israeli cities. Israeli air defenses have intercepted many projectiles, but some have penetrated, causing casualties and damage across the country, particularly in Tel Aviv. Conflict context The US and Israel have maintained airstrikes on Iran since Feb. 28, killing over 1,340 people according to Iranian authorities, including former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and more than 150 schoolgirls. Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, along with Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure while disrupting global markets and aviation. US casualties Thirteen US service members have been killed and around 290 others injured since the operation began. The conflict has expanded to Lebanon, where Israeli ground operations have displaced over one million people, and the Strait of Hormuz remains effectively closed, pushing oil prices above $116 per barrel.
