Kuwaiti air defense forces have successfully intercepted a ballistic missile and shot down 15 hostile drones within a 24-hour period, the country’s Defense Ministry announced, as Gulf nations face intensifying aerial threats amid the widening Middle East conflict. In a statement released on Friday, the ministry detailed that a single ballistic missile was detected and destroyed by Kuwait’s air defense systems. Additionally, 25 hostile drones were identified entering Kuwaiti airspace, with 15 of them intercepted and neutralized. Eight other drones fell outside designated threat zones and posed no danger, officials said. The attacks did result in some infrastructure damage, however. Two drones struck a unit at a refinery operated by the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, triggering a fire. Specialized response teams brought the blaze under control without any casualties, according to the ministry. The refinery is among Kuwait’s critical energy facilities, underscoring the vulnerability of Gulf energy infrastructure amid the current hostilities. The aerial assaults come against a backdrop of escalating regional violence following the joint US-Israeli offensive against Iran that began on February 28. That campaign has reportedly killed approximately 1,300 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Iran has responded with retaliatory drone and missile operations targeting Israel as well as US military assets in Jordan, Iraq, and across Gulf states, causing casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions to global markets and aviation.
