The Organization of Islamic Cooperation issued a strong condemnation Wednesday after a ballistic missile launched from Iran entered Turkish airspace before being intercepted and neutralized by NATO air and missile defense systems. The OIC General Secretariat expressed its full solidarity with Türkiye and affirmed unwavering support for defending the country's sovereignty, security, and stability. Diplomatic Response According to Türkiye's National Defense Ministry, the missile was detected after crossing Iraqi and Syrian airspace and was successfully engaged by allied defenses. Debris from the intercepted missile landed in the Dortyol district of Hatay province in southern Türkiye, with no casualties or injuries reported. Ankara swiftly summoned Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Hassan Habibollahzadeh to the Foreign Ministry, conveying firm protest and deep concerns over the incident while underscoring that any steps risking conflict expansion must be avoided. Call for Restraint The OIC called for an immediate end to any actions that could escalate tensions and destabilize the region, emphasizing that threatening member states and undermining their security violates the principles of international relations founded on good neighborliness and mutual respect. The incident highlights the growing risk of spillover from the escalating US-Israeli conflict with Iran, which has now drawn in neighboring states through missile and drone strikes.
