OIC warns Huckabee's 'dangerous' call for Israeli expansion

The Jeddah-based Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has issued a strong condemnation of recent statements by US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, who publicly endorsed the expansion of Israeli control over territory from the Nile River to the Euphrates. In an official statement, the 57-nation Islamic bloc described the ambassador's comments as "dangerous and irresponsible," warning they pose a direct threat to regional security and stability. OIC: Rhetoric Violates International Norms The OIC characterized Huckabee's remarks, made during an interview with US journalist Tucker Carlson, as an unacceptable call for the occupying power to seize additional Palestinian and Arab lands. The organization stated that the comments are based on "a false and rejected historical and ideological narrative" that flagrantly violates state sovereignty, diplomatic norms, and the principles of international law, including the UN Charter. The bloc warned that such extremist rhetoric would embolden Israeli policies centered on displacement, settlement expansion, and annexation in occupied Palestinian territory. Arab League Joins Condemnation Echoing the OIC's stance, Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit also condemned Huckabee's claims, stating they contradict the most basic principles and norms of diplomacy. In a post on social media platform X, Aboul Gheit noted that the remarks run counter to official US policies and appear aimed at appealing to right-wing audiences in Israel. He warned that such statements, which lack any legal or political basis, "inflame religious and national sentiments" at a critical moment when regional and international efforts are focused on implementing a Gaza peace agreement and launching a serious political process. Support for Palestinian Rights The OIC reaffirmed its unwavering support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent, sovereign state on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. The organization's strong response reflects deep concern across the Muslim world over expansionist ideologies, particularly those linked to the "Greater Israel" concept, which has been publicly endorsed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and is now being promoted by a senior US diplomat.
