Smoke rose among residential buildings in Tehran on March 10 following a new wave of Israeli attacks on the Iranian capital, according to images from the scene. The strikes, announced by the Israeli army, represent the latest escalation in the ongoing US-Israeli military campaign against Iran that began Feb. 28. Civilian areas affected The images showing smoke rising near residential neighborhoods raise concerns about the proximity of strikes to civilian areas, as the campaign has already resulted in significant civilian casualties. Iranian authorities report that more than 1,300 people have been killed since the conflict began, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and over 150 schoolgirls in a Minab school attack. Continuing campaign The new wave of strikes comes as US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth declared Tuesday would be the "most intense day" of American operations, with more fighters, bombers and refined intelligence targeting Iranian military infrastructure. Gen. Dan Caine reported that over 5,000 Iranian targets have been struck and more than 50 naval ships destroyed in the first 10 days of the campaign. Regional fallout Iran has retaliated with approximately 3,095 missile and UAV attacks against seven Arab countries since the conflict began, according to data compiled in Ankara. Gulf states continue to intercept incoming projectiles while attempting to avoid direct involvement in the war, as the conflict shows no signs of de-escalation.
