The Türkiye Diyanet Foundation carried out a humanitarian assistance program in Zanzibar, Tanzania, providing food packages to families in need and clothing support to orphaned children during the holy month of Ramadan. The distribution took place across the Zanzibar region, including Pemba Island, where access to smaller surrounding islands requires maritime transport. Aid reaches remote island communities On February 25, beneficiaries on Pemba Island were observed loading food parcels onto small boats along the shoreline to deliver the supplies to neighboring islands. The scene illustrated both the geographic challenges of the archipelago and the coordinated effort to ensure that humanitarian relief reached isolated communities in East Africa. Ramadan solidarity in Tanzania The Ramadan initiative forms part of the foundation’s broader international relief activities, which focus on food security and social support in underserved regions. In addition to staple food items, clothing assistance was provided to orphans in Zanzibar, reflecting an emphasis on supporting vulnerable groups during the fasting month. Zanzibar, a semi-autonomous region of Tanzania located in the Indian Ocean, consists of several islands, including Unguja and Pemba. Humanitarian organizations frequently rely on sea transport to reach smaller settlements scattered across the archipelago.
