Türkiye’s achievements in education took center stage at a UNESCO meeting in Paris this week, where international officials praised the country’s progress as a model for building coherent and sustainable education systems. The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization hosted the launch of its 2026 Global Education Monitoring Report at its headquarters on March 25, featuring Türkiye in a panel titled Access and Equity in Education. Decades of reform yield measurable results Deputy Education Minister Muhammet Bilal Macit represented Türkiye at the event, outlining the country’s educational advancements over the past 23 years. He presented examples of policies, services, and reforms implemented to expand access to education nationwide. Several speakers at the gathering described Türkiye’s experience as a “success story,” noting that the country demonstrates how consistent systems and long-term strategies can produce tangible improvements. OECD, UNESCO officials highlight Türkiye’s example Andreas Schleicher, education director at the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), drew attention to global education challenges, observing that while ambitious targets have been set, the world remains far from achieving them as 2030 approaches. However, he noted that Türkiye’s efforts show progress remains possible. “They have not found a magic wand, but built consistent systems, mobilized local resources to make education sustainable, and invested in labor market policies where better skills translate into better jobs and better lives,” Schleicher said. Stefania Giannini, UNESCO assistant director-general for education and former Italian education minister, also highlighted Türkiye as a successful example, emphasizing that effective solutions require a comprehensive approach beyond single policy areas, encompassing financing, human resources, and infrastructure.
