Türkiye sends new aid ship to Gaza as Rafah crossing reopens

A fresh shipment of humanitarian aid from Türkiye has arrived in Egypt, destined for Gaza, as international efforts to support the region intensify following the partial reopening of the Rafah border crossing. The 21st "Goodness Ship," operated by the Turkish Red Crescent, docked at the port of El Arish in northeastern Egypt on Saturday after departing from Mersin, Türkiye. Relief Supplies for Palestinian Families The vessel is carrying approximately 3,300 tons of essential supplies, a comprehensive shipment aimed at alleviating the dire conditions in Gaza. The cargo includes 175,000 food parcels, alongside critical items such as personal care products, clothing, shelter materials, and clean water. Upon arrival, the aid was officially received and will now be transferred through the Rafah border crossing into Gaza, in close coordination with the Egyptian Red Crescent. Continued Support Through Rafah This latest mission marks a significant step in Ankara's ongoing humanitarian efforts. Since the onset of the war on October 7, 2023, the Turkish Red Crescent has consistently utilized its "Goodness Ship" initiative to deliver aid to the blockaded region. The effort has been bolstered by collaborations with various Turkish public institutions and the private sector, strengthening the country's solidarity network with the people of Gaza. Ankara Scales Up Deliveries The successful delivery of this aid coincides with the renewed accessibility of the Rafah border crossing, a vital artery for humanitarian relief that was partially reopened on February 2 after a prolonged closure. With this vital crossing now operational, Türkiye has accelerated its logistics, announcing plans to dispatch an initial batch of 20,000 container homes to Gaza, further demonstrating its commitment to providing both immediate relief and longer-term shelter solutions for the affected population.
