Turkish institutions in Baku gather for iftar, celebrate unity

Representatives of Turkish institutions and organizations operating in Azerbaijan gathered for an iftar program in the capital Baku on Tuesday, marking the Muslim holy month of Ramadan with a traditional fast-breaking meal. The event brought together Türkiye's Ambassador to Baku Birol Akgun, the Representative of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in Baku Ambassador Ufuk Turganer, representatives of Turkish institutions and organizations, and teachers working in Turkish educational institutions. Ramadan tradition The program began with a recitation from the Holy Quran, and guests broke their fast with the call to prayer, sharing traditional Azerbaijani dishes. The gathering reflects the close cultural and religious ties between Türkiye and Azerbaijan, with Turkish citizens in the country maintaining their traditions while abroad. Ambassador's message During the event, Ambassador Akgun expressed that they consider Azerbaijan their homeland and emphasized the importance of unity and solidarity among Turkish citizens there. Noting that the region was going through a difficult period, Akgun highlighted the role of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's shared vision, solidarity, and joint action in "guaranteeing peace and stability for both countries." Bilateral relations The iftar gathering underscores the strong bond between Türkiye and Azerbaijan, often described as "one nation, two states."
