Uzbekistan pledges 'meaningful contribution' to Gaza reconstruction

The pledge came during the board's inaugural meeting in Washington, where representatives from more than 45 nations gathered to coordinate post-conflict stabilization efforts. Central Asian Engagement in Middle East Peace Mirziyoyev's commitment marks significant engagement by a Central Asian nation in Middle East peacebuilding, reflecting the expanded mandate of the Board of Peace beyond its original Gaza focus to promote global conflict resolution. Uzbekistan joins Kazakhstan and other regional states in pledging support for the initiative, demonstrating the broad international coalition President Donald Trump has assembled behind his peacemaking vision. Board of Peace Framework The Board of Peace was established within the framework of efforts toward a peaceful settlement in the Gaza Strip following the US-brokered ceasefire that took effect October 10, halting Israel's two-year onslaught that killed more than 72,000 Palestinians. The board has since expanded its mission to support peacemaking worldwide, with additional states joining since its January founding in Davos. During Thursday's meeting, Gulf nations pledged over $4 billion, with the United States committing $10 billion to reconstruction and stabilization efforts. Reconstruction Challenges Gaza faces unprecedented reconstruction needs following the devastating conflict that displaced the vast majority of its population and destroyed critical infrastructure. Despite the ceasefire, Gaza's Health Ministry reports Israeli forces have committed hundreds of violations through shelling and gunfire, killing 611 Palestinians and injuring 1,630 since the agreement took effect. Uzbekistan's contribution, while symbolic of global solidarity, will join international efforts to address these urgent humanitarian needs while building foundations for long-term recovery and stability in the war-ravaged enclave.
